British Wheel of Yoga Foundation Course 1

The fifth BWY Foundation Course finished in August 2009. Please note that I have no plans to run a foundation course in the near future - details of other teachers offering such courses can be found on the British Wheel of Yoga's main website or their regional websites (accessed via their links page).

Info re previous Foundation Courses

This is a structured, practical yoga foundation course of ten, one-day sessions for students who wish to deepen their personal practice and understanding of Yoga, or for those considering British Wheel of Yoga (BWY) teacher training. The course content includes: methods of preparing for practice, exploration of asanas, pranayama, mudras, concentration and meditation, relaxation, chanting, and background and philosophy of yoga. The Yoga Foundation Course is taught by a mixture of talks, discussion, demonstration and practical sessions. Throughout the duration of the course students are required to keep a yoga practice diary.

The course content has been approved by The British Wheel of Yoga, and the Tutor, Julia Wheatley, holds the British Wheel of Yoga Teaching Diploma. She has been teaching since 1989.

On completion of the Yoga Foundation Course a Certificate of Attendance will be awarded. A minimum of 80% attendance is required in order to receive the Certificate. Please note that the Certificate of Attendance is not a teaching qualification, but it would be advantageous for those students who wish to go on to join a BWY Diploma Course (teacher training).

Applicants must have at least two years experience with a recognised Yoga teacher, from whom a recommendation or reference will be required - preferably in the form of a letter . They will also be required to join the British Wheel of Yoga if not already a member.

The course consists of 10 x 7 hour sessions (10.00am to 5.00pm) spread over 6 months, usually held on Saturdays at around 3 week intervals. Places on the course are limited according to BWY guidelines - prospective students should apply early to avoid disappointment.

Students will need to have a copy of The Heart of Yoga by T. K. V. Desikachar (pub: Inner Traditions Intl.).
